How Much does a Virtual Assistant Cost?

What does a virtual assistant cost?

This is a question all of us Virtual Assistants see on social media often.  We really dislike this question because we believe a Virtual Assistant should not be seen as a cost, but as an investment in you and your business.

I have seen company’s looking for a virtual assistant and offering miniscule amounts that they want to pay and it is sad because of what a professional proactive virtual assistant can give any business.  I have also seen companies pay way too much for virtual assistants, but, the good news is, there is a happy middle point that can be reached between two parties that want to partner together with a common goal of maintaining and building your business.

As a Professional Proactive Virtual Assistant, of course, I have a strong opinion with regard to pricing of Virtual Assistants.  This is my opinion and it is based on the industry and on personal experience of what works and what most virtual assistants expect.  This is also based on United States virtual assistants only.  Foreign countries have very cheap rates, but you may find language and cultural issues when hiring someone that does not have English as their first language and you also have time zone issues. .

You may be wondering what a Proactive Virtual Assistant is?  A Proactive Virtual Assistant is invested in YOU and Your Company, grows with you as your success is their success, partners with YOU, is forward thinking, offers you additional support and goes the extra mile, provides you with suggestions and ideas and learns who YOU are and how you think.  Any virtual assistant can do your tasks but a Proactive VA will partner with you and help you grow your business.

Virtual Assistants range in price from $25 to $60 per hour, I have seen some virtual assistants charge less and some charge more.  I do believe everyone needs to stop making these decisions based on the hourly costs of a virtual assistant and instead figure out your budget and figure out what tasks you need done:

  1.  Compile a list of your tasks, ask your prospective virtual assistant how much do they think it will cost you each month/week on average to complete these tasks.
  1.  Give your prospective virtual assistant your monthly/weekly budget and a list of tasks and ask how much of that list they can get done each month/week for that amount of money.

This will allow you have some type of comparison. The problem with virtual assistants and their fees is often due to inexperience as a new business owner, sometimes they pick a number out of thin air, or they charge a price because everyone else they know is charging that.

Don’t make decisions based on hourly fees.  Use one of the two bullets above and make sure to do your due diligence, ask for references, read testimonials.  All experienced virtual assistants will have testimonials on their website.  Ask them questions about the tasks you need done, how long will it take them, ask about their experience doing these types of tasks and ask them if they have ever worked in your industry.

Some virtual assistants may charge a lower fee than others but, it may take them twice as long to do particular tasks, this is why many questions and a consultation is very necessary.

Lastly, there should also be a personality fit.  Your virtual assistant will be someone that you work very closely with so you should have things in common such as, but not limited to: personality, working style, energy, goals, enthusiasm, etc.

I’m Convinced That Proactive Virtual Assistants Are The Future

I'm Convinced That Proactive Virtual Assistants Are The Future

Virtual Assistants are the Future.

Most Entrepreneurs and Small Businesses need help.

It is a known fact that you can’t create and run an empire alone.  You may think that full-time, physical staffing is your only option.  It’s not.  Many successful entrepreneurs and small businesses
have virtual assistants and some have had them for years!

If you think about it, many of your professional relationships today are virtual.

Today, most business transactions are conducted via e-mail and occasionally phone.  So, it really doesn’t matter where your assistant is located.  No one knows the difference.  All you need is a sharp, responsive proactive assistant who helps you and your clients get what they need when they need it.   With a virtual assistant you get a trusted business partner who frees you up to do what YOU do best.Do YOU think it’s time to consider hiring one for yourself?  You may have some reservations and wonder what a VA can do for you, if you truly need one and can you justify the expense?

What can proactive virtual assistants do for you?

Anything that does not require their physical presence.

  • Manage any projects you don’t want to handle
  • Answer and/or screen your e-mail and respond for you or as you
  • Confirm and schedule appointments
  • Book travel arrangements
  • Make calls on for you
  • Perform research
  • Complete expense reports and track reimbursements
  • Create invoices and payments
  • Create documents and branded images
  • Handle your social media and/or create profiles
  • Create and send letters, newsletters, blog posts
  • Customer Service
  • And many many other tasks

Why you need Proactive Virtual Assistants:

  • You know you could really “move the needle” if you could focus more on what you and only you can do.
  • You know you need help but can’t afford someone full-time. You don’t want the hassle of recruiting, hiring, and training a physical assistant.
  • You feel overwhelmed with your workload.
  • You need help digging out from the administrative pile.
  • You want to be more productive and less stressed.
  • You want—and need—more margin in your life.

What are the benefits of a virtual assistant you may ask?

  • Virtual assistants reduce your labor costs! Virtual assistants are independent contractors which means you don’t need to even think about payroll taxes, vacation pay, sick days, worker’s compensation and employee benefits such as health and dental insurance and there are no OSHA regulations to follow.
  • Virtual assistants work around your schedule to provide you service when you need it. Think of them as| your ‘on-call’ go to person.  No need to hire part time employees and hope you have enough work to keep them|busy for the hours they work. With a virtual assistant you only pay for time spent on YOUR project AND work can be done outside normal business hours.
  • There are no agency fees as with temporary employees.
  • You don’t need to spend any money on employee training.
  • You won’t pay any overtime and yet you’ll still keep your projects on schedule.
  • A virtual assistant may have skills that you don’t, desperately need but don’t have time to learn.
  • A virtual assistant cares about her business – it’s her livelihood – she wants you to call her and she wants you to tell others about her services. This results in superior service.

If you have any questions you would like answered about hiring or if you really need a virtual assistant, please give me a call at 760-662-8395 and let’s chat!  Share this blog post with others that you think would enjoy it or that it may help.

Ten Laws of Social Media – It Takes Time to Make a Difference

Ten Laws of Social Media

Leveraging the power of content and social media marketing can help elevate your audience and customer
base in a dramatic way.   Getting started without any previous experience or insight could be challenging.

It's vital that you understand social media marketing fundamentals. From maximizing quality to increasing
your online entry points, abiding by these 10 laws will help build a foundation that will serve your customers,
your brand and -- perhaps most importantly -- your bottom line.

1. The Law of Listening
Success with social media and content marketing requires more listening and less talking. Read your target
audience’s online content and join discussions to learn what’s important to them. Only then can you create
content and spark conversations that add value rather than clutter to their lives.

2. The Law of Focus
It’s better to specialize than to be a jack-of-all-trades. A highly-focused social media and content marketing
strategy intended to build a strong brand has a better chance for success than a broad strategy that attempts
to be all things to all people.

3. The Law of Quality
Quality trumps quantity. It’s better to have 1,000 online connections who read, share and talk about your
content with their own audiences than 10,000 connections who disappear after connecting with you the first
time.

4. The Law of Patience
Social media and content marketing success doesn’t happen overnight. While it’s possible to catch lightning
in a bottle, it’s far more likely that you’ll need to commit to the long haul to achieve results.

5. The Law of Compounding
If you publish amazing, quality content and work to build your online audience of quality followers, they’ll
share it with their own audiences on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, their own blogs and more.

This sharing and discussing of your content opens new entry points for search engines like Google to find it
in keyword searches. Those entry points could grow to hundreds or thousands of more potential ways for
people to find you online.

6. The Law of Influence
Spend time finding the online influencers in your market who have quality audiences and are likely to be
interested in your products, services and business. Connect with those people and work to build
relationships with them.

If you get on their radar as an authoritative, interesting source of useful information, they might share your
content with their own followers, which could put you and your business in front of a huge new audience.

7. The Law of Value
If you spend all your time on the social Web directly promoting your products and services, people will stop
listening. You must add value to the conversation. Focus less on conversions and more on creating amazing
content and developing relationships with online influencers. In time, those people will become a powerful
catalyst for word-of-mouth marketing for your business.

8. The Law of Acknowledgment
You wouldn’t ignore someone who reaches out to you in person so don’t ignore them online. Building
relationships is one of the most important parts of social media marketing success, so always acknowledge
every person who reaches out to you.

9. The Law of Accessibility
Don’t publish your content and then disappear. Be available to your audience. That means you need to
consistently publish content and participate in conversations. Followers online can be fickle and they won’t
hesitate to replace you if you disappear for weeks or months.

10. The Law of Reciprocity
You can’t expect others to share your content and talk about you if you don’t do the same for them. So, a
portion of the time you spend on social media should be focused on sharing and talking about content
published by others.

Plan on working long and hard but in the end, you will get in front of people, build relationships, get
engagement and start getting conversions!

10 Reasons I Love Being a Virtual Assistant!

10 Reasons I Love Being a Virtual Assistant

  1. The ability to work from anywhere!  I can work at home, in my office or on my deck.  I can work at Starbucks, I can work at the beach, at my friend’s house, by the pool, in my car while on vacation!  I can work at the dog park! Freedom is what it is all about!
  2. Satisfaction – knowing that I am helping people with the things I am expert at, so they can spend time growing their businesses.
  3. Flexibility – setting my own hours.  I am a night owl and I can work in the wee hours while everything is quiet!
  4. Variety of tasks – a Virtual Assistant is a diverse role and I love doing many different things that help my clients.
  5. Relationships – building professional relationships with different people from all over the world and many different industries.
  6. The social media aspect – working virtually means spending most of my time in the online world being social!
  7. Environmental Benefits – working virtually means using conserving paper and most of my time is electronic. This gives a very streamlined approach to modern business.
  8. Working with BIG and SMALL Businesses – helping both types of businesses give us variety and we have the excitement of helping a startup, solopreneur and the challenges of working with big corporations on projects as well.
  9. Assisting multiple clients – we LOVE challenges; it keeps us on our toes.
  10. No need to waste time commuting – walking from my bedroom to my home office lets me start working on my tasks immediately and working allows me more productivity time.

I worked in Corporate America for many years and I love being a Virtual Assistant!  It is very rewarding to help clients so that they can spend their important time working on their business.  I am no longer restricted by corporate rules and am now able to be a business partner to many and can let my expertise, creativity and ideas help many.

Thanks,

Danna
